I watched the North Face, a german film about the 1937 attempt up the North Face of Eiger over the weekend and thought it was a fantastic film. It’s pretty true to life from what I remember when I read Harrer’s White Spider and a jolting reality about what can go wrong on a mountain.
I’ve never been the kind of person who wanted to bag a big first ascent or really push the limits but I was holding my 3-month old daughter as I watched it and looking down at her while she was sleeping was a vivid reminder of the risks you take whenever you climb mountains.
I promise I’ll be safe Juniper.
